Rudock came in to pitch the bottom of the sixth, closing out the game with great defensive plays by Chase Albright and Derek Robbie. Dominick Fimiano at third base and Gabriel Ibrahim in left excelled defensively. With a 5-0 lead in the fifth, Matthew Chamberlain came in to pitch and allowed only one run while striking out three batters. Patrick Stallings tracked down the ball, relayed to Jacob Rudock, who threw to Ernest Mancini to tag the runner out at home. With a runner on first base and one out, the Tigers hit a triple. The Tigers were held scoreless for the first four innings on pitching by Brian Lubasky and Kyle Cahill and highlighted by a tremendous defensive play. The Cubs struck early in the top of the first when Brian Lubasky drove in Scott Kinne on a single. The championship game matched the Cubs and the Tigers, two teams with a combined record of 24-1-1. The Cubs, coached by Tom Chamberlain and Bob Rudock, went undefeated in their last 13 games, including the playoffs.

The Cards got a gutsy pitching performance from Conway, who gave up just one run in two innings, while striking out four Cubs. Anthony Saia pitched two scoreless innings to notch his second save of the season. The champion Blue Jays finished their season with a record of 14-1-1. The game featured great pitching and excellent defense by both teams. In the final playoff game, the Blue Jays downed the Yankees 2-1.
